UIC HIM Application

Current UIC students may apply to the UIC College of Applied Health Sciences for the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management. Students should apply as inter-college transfer applicants when most of the prerequisite courses have been completed. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better no later than the semester before planned entry (for example, spring 2019 for fall 2019 entry in the BS in HIM major). To determine if you are ready to apply please consult your assigned pre-health advisor.

Application Requirements Heading link

The BS in Health Information Management has its own application along with supplemental forms, documents, and letters required for admission.

Current UIC students can complete the intercollege transfer application rather than the undergraduate application. The intercollege transfer application waives the application fee.

Students applying to the BS in HIM at UIC must have a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average (GPA).

Applicants must include all college transcripts with the application. Any coursework from other institutions that appears on your UIC transcript does not need a separate transcript. However, if you have completed coursework that does not appear on your UIC record, you will need to submit an official transcript.

Applicants to the BS in Health Information Management must submit a resume for consideration. Pre-health advisors are available to review students’ resumes prior to the application deadline. Students are strongly encouraged to make use of this service.

Applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation. Ideally, at least one recommendation writer will have taught you in a college level class. The other recommendation letters can come from a professional or academic connections. A work supervisor would be appropriate. All letters must be on a specific form provided by the BS in HIM application.

Please note that the BS in Health Information Management will automatically disregard letters of recommendation from family, friends, or coworkers. Be thoughtful about your choices and cognizant of the timeline. Students are encouraged to watch the Letters of Recommendation webinar series before selecting recommenders.
