Restricted Courses

Non-LAS Restricted Courses Heading link

Restricted courses are those classes which require approval for enrollment. Many of these courses have specific prerequisites. The restricted courses below are the most common Non-LAS courses sought by pre-health students at UIC. All courses have a waitlist or other mechanism by which to indicate interest in a course. Please read the information in the tabs carefully and follow the appropriate instructions to ensure that you are indicating your interest in the appropriate classes.

The KN 230 + KN 232 Waitlist is OPEN.

Please read the information on the KN Waitlist page carefully! LAS Pre-Health Advising will no longer manage the KN 230/232 waitlist. The first overrides are expected to be processed in late-April.

In mid-February the College of Applied Health Sciences announced changes to the Anatomy & Physiology sequence at UIC.

New courses will replace KN 251. The change will allow students to take the lecture and lab separately if needed.

Previous Course: Lecture + Lab – KN 251 (5 credit hours)

New Courses: Lecture – KN 230 (3 credit hours) + Lab – KN 232 (2 credit hours)

KN 251 (5 credits of Lecture + Lab) = KN 230 (3 credits of Lecture) + KN 232 (2 credits of Lab)

Students in the College of Applied Health Sciences may register for KN 230 and KN 232 through the regular registration process when your time ticket opens. Please do not submit your name to the waitlist.

A grade of C or better in BIOS 110 and a minimum overall GPA 2.5 is still required to take KN 230/KN 232. Exception: A grade of CR in BIOS 110 will be accepted as having met the prerequisite in Spring 2020 only. A grade of C or higher is required in all other semesters.

The equivalent of KN 230 + KN 232 is also available at Chicago (and surrounding area) community colleges and credit can be counted toward the requirement for UIC’s nursing program. Use Transferology to determine your course options; you may need to look for a match to KN 251 for the summer and fall 2024 terms.

The KN 231 and KN 233 Waitlist is CLOSED.

Please read the information on the KN Waitlist page carefully! LAS Pre-Health Advising will no longer manage the KN 231/233 waitlist.

In mid-February 2024 the College of Applied Health Sciences announced changes to the Anatomy & Physiology sequence at UIC.

New courses have replaced KN 252. The change will allow students to take the lecture and lab separately if needed.

Previous Course: Lecture + Lab – KN 252 (5 credit hours)

New Courses: Lecture – KN 231 (3 credit hours) + Lab – KN 233 (2 credit hours)

KN 252 (5 credits of Lecture + Lab) = KN 231 (3 credits of Lecture) + KN 233 (2 credits of Lab)

Students in the College of Applied Health Sciences may register for KN 231 and KN 233 through the regular registration process when your time ticket opens. Please do not submit your name to the waitlist.

KN 231 and KN 233 – Anatomy & Physiology Lecture II and Anatomy & Physiology Lab II – is only offered in the Spring semester at UIC. This waitlist is only intended for students who completed the equivalent of KN 230 and/or KN 232 at another institution or at UIC in a semester other than Fall 2024. Students who are enrolled in KN 230 in Fall 2024 will receive an override automatically and may register for KN 231 and KN 233 at any time once their time ticket opens.

A grade of C or better in BIOS 110 and a minimum overall GPA 2.5 is still required to take KN 231/KN 233. Exception: A grade of CR in BIOS 110 will be accepted as having met the prerequisite in Spring 2020 only. A grade of C or higher is required in all other semesters.

The equivalent of KN 231 + KN 233 is also available at Chicago (and surrounding area) community colleges and credit can be counted toward the requirement for UIC’s nursing program. Use Transferology to determine your course options; you may need to look for a match to KN 251 for the summer and fall 2024 terms.

For information regarding Kinesiology courses other than KN 251/252 please see the Applied Health Science website. You will need to scroll down to the page to access the “Courses other than KN 251/252general waitlist and click on “Join the general waitlist.”

Students interested in completing KN 253 or KN 254 at UIC should submit their name to the general waitlist.

KN 253 and KN 254 are now being offered during Summer 2023 at UIC! Non-AHS students will need to request a seat using the general waitlist for kinesiology courses.

The Fall 2024 NUEL 250 permit request survey is now open. The last day to request a registration permit is August 23, 2024, at 8 a.m.  Please carefully read the information regarding the minimum GPA required and your anticipated BSN admission term.

The College of Nursing also accepts other courses that are comparable to NUEL 250, including PSCH 320 at UIC. The equivalent of NUEL 250 is also available at Chicago (and surrounding area) community colleges and credit can be counted toward the requirement for UIC’s nursing program. Please use Transferology to determine options that might work for you if that is your preference.

Pre-Health Information Management students should contact Arnita Bryant at bryanta@uic.edu in the IDS office for access to IDS 200.

In your email, include your name, UIN, and your status as a pre-health information management student in LAS. Don’t forget to include that you would like access to IDS 200.
