Students are encouraged to meet with LAS pre-health advisors to assist in planning and decision making toward their health profession interest areas and educational goals. We find that students who begin to utilize pre-health advising services early in their academic career at UIC feel more confident in their pre-professional goals.
Pre-Nursing, Pre-Health Information Management, Pre-Nutrition, and Pre-Public Health students will be assigned a pre-health advisor and will meet with that advisor for mandatory first-year advising (MFA) appointments.
Students in all other pre-health fields are assigned a general academic advisor who will work with you over the course of your fours years. Like your major advisor, pre-health advisors are here to supplement and enhance your advising experience. In the first-year, students are encouraged to attend workshops and events, and utilize webinars or drop-in advising. All pre-health students are encouraged to begin one-on-one appointments with a pre-health advisor in the sophomore year - ideally after general chemistry has been completed.
LAS First-year students must see their assigned LAS advisor for mandatory first-year advising (MFA) appointments. First-year students with an assigned educational goal of Pre-Nursing, Pre-Health Information Management, Pre-Nutrition, or Pre-Public Health will meet with their assigned pre-health advisor.
All LAS students interested in nursing and who do not have a Pre-Nursing or Post-Baccalaureate Nursing educational goal should plan to meet with a pre-health advisor in a 30-minute “interested in pre-nursing” appointment.
LAS sophomore, junior and senior pre-health students may request an individual appointment with a pre-health advisor. Students are encouraged to schedule one-on-one appointments with a pre-health advisor early in their academic career at UIC.
For pre-health questions not needing a full appointment, pre-health advisors are available on a drop-in basis to answer quick questions or offer advice to a presented situation.
Pre-Nursing, Pre-Health Information Management, Pre-Nutrition, and Pre-Public Health students will find drop-in hours on Tuesdays during the academic year from 8:30-11:30am and 1:00-3:30pm in the LAS Academic Advising Center (3rd Floor, University Hall). Students interested in these fields but without a declared educational goal are encouraged to make a 30-minute “interested in” appointment with a pre-health advisor or attend a drop-in with your general academic advisor. They can assist you in navigating your options.
All other Pre-Health areas will find drop-in hours on Tuesdays during the academic year from 9:00-11:30am and 1:00-3:30pm in the Pre-Professional Advising Center (2nd floor, Science and Engineering South building).
Non-LAS Student Appointments
UIC undergraduate students outside of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are welcome to make an appointment with a pre-health advisor. To schedule your first appointment, please complete the Non LAS Pre-Health Student Request form. A pre-health advisor will respond as quickly as possible regarding the request.
Non-LAS students are also welcome to utilize drop-in advising. If you do not have an Insight account, please check in with reception for a drop-in.
Non-LAS Pre-Nursing, Pre-HIM, Pre-Public Health, or Pre-Nutrition students should attend an ICT Information Session if you wish to move to LAS. LAS Pre-Health Advisors are available to meet with you at the ICT information sessions.
