Restricted courses are those classes which require approval for enrollment. Many of these courses have specific prerequisites. The restricted courses below are the most common Non-LAS courses sought by pre-health students at UIC. All courses have a waitlist or other mechanism by which to indicate interest in a course. Please read the information in the tabs carefully and follow the appropriate instructions to ensure that you are indicating your interest in the appropriate classes.
Anatomy & Physiology I (KN 251)
The KN 251 Waitlist is CLOSED. You may request access to the class by reaching out the the AHS contact on the waitlist page until the end of the add/drop period.
KN 251 – Anatomy & Physiology with lab – is only offered in the Fall semester at UIC.
To be eligible to take KN 251 in Fall 2023, you must have earned credit for BIOS 110 (previously BIOS 100) no later than Summer 2023. Please be sure to read all instructions on the KN 251 waitlist prior to submitting your name. Please do not submit your name to the waitlist multiple times. All students who meet the minimum requirements (see below and on the form) and submit their name to the waitlist by May 5, 2023 will be given priority status for a seat and informed of the override in mid-June. No overrides will be provided before then.
Students in the College of Applied Health Sciences may register for KN 251 through the regular registration process when your time ticket opens. Please do not submit your name to the waitlist.
LAS students must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and have a grade of C or better in BIOS 110 in order to receive an override for KN 251. Students who do not fall within these parameters should schedule an appointment to talk with a pre-health advisor about their options or to request an appeal. Exception: A grade of CR in BIOS 110 will be accepted as having met the prerequisite in Spring 2020 only. A grade of C or higher is required in all other semesters.
Find the KN 251 Waitlist on the College of Applied Health Sciences website here. Then, scroll down for KN 251 and read the instructions/guidelines before submitting your name to the waitlist. Students who submit their name to the waitlist will be informed of their override status in by mid-June. Please be sure that you are submitting your name where it says Join the KN 251 waitlist as there are multiple waitlists on the same page.
The equivalent of KN 251 is also available at Chicago (and surrounding area) community colleges and credit can be counted toward the requirement for UIC’s nursing program. Use Transferology to determine your course options.
Anatomy and Physiology 2 with Lab (KN 252)
The KN 252 Waitlist will is now CLOSED. Students enrolled in KN 251 – Anatomy & Physiology with Lab in Fall 2023 will automatically receive an override for KN 252 in Spring 2024. Please do not submit your name to the waitlist.
KN 252 – Anatomy & Physiology II with lab – is only offered in the Spring semester at UIC. This waitlist is only intended for students who completed the equivalent of KN 251 at another institution or at UIC in a semester other than Fall 2023.
To be eligible to take KN 252 in Spring 2024, you must have earned credit for BIOS 110/BIOS 100 no later than Fall 2023. Please be sure to read and complete all instructions on the KN 252 waitlist prior to submitting your name.

Other kinesiology courses

Students interested in completing KN 253 or KN 254 at UIC should submit their name to the general waitlist.
KN 253 and KN 254 are now being offered during Summer 2023 at UIC! Non-AHS students will need to request a seat using the general waitlist for kinesiology courses.
Human Development Across the Lifespan (NUEL 250)
The Fall 2023 NUEL 250 waitlist is now CLOSED. The last day to request a registration permit is August 18, 2023, at 8 a.m. Please carefully read the information regarding minimum GPA and correctly selecting your anticipated BSN admission term.
The College of Nursing also accepts other courses that are comparable to NUEL 250, including PSCH 320 at UIC. The equivalent of NUEL 250 is also available at Chicago (and surrounding area) community colleges and credit can be counted toward the requirement for UIC’s nursing program. Information and Decision Sciences (IDS) 200
Pre-Health Information Management students should contact Arnita Bryant at bryanta@uic.edu in the IDS office for access to IDS 200.
In your email, include your name, UIN, and your status as a pre-health information management student in LAS. Don’t forget to include that you would like access to IDS 200.

General Microbiology (BIOS 350)
The Fall 2023 override request form for BIOS 350 will open Monday, March 27, 2023 at 8am with a priority deadline of Friday, April 7, 2023 at 4pm. Students who sign up by the priority deadline will receive notification of their approval status between Monday, April 10 – Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Students should not contact the Department of Biological Sciences or the College of Liberal Arts and Science prior to April 13, 2023.
The request form will re-open on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 8am for those who did not make the priority deadline and will permanently close on Friday, April 21 at 4pm. Students who sign up by this secondary deadline will receive notification of their approval status on or after Monday, Monday, April 24.

All Other Major-Restricted 300-400 Level Courses
Fall 2023 Registration: Students in the following majors may register for 300-400 level BIOS courses without overrides:
- Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Neuroscience, and Physics.
Integrated Health Studies Majors: For all students who are majoring in Integrated Health Studies (IHS), you may request overrides for BIOS courses by emailing your IHS advisor, Trisha Garcia (tmgarcia@uic.edu). If you have met the pre-requisites for the course, Trisha will provide you an override and you will be able to register when your time ticket opens. Be sure to include your name and UIN in your email.
All other students, including science minors and students who have declared any of the above listed majors (excluding IHS) during the Spring 2023 semester, are restricted from registering for all 300-400 level BIOS courses.
** Students who wish to register for 300-400 level BIOS courses (except for BIOS 350 – see other tab) will need departmental approval. Students may request approval to register for these courses beginning on April 13, 2023, which is the start of Continuing Registration. Students should not contact the Department of Biological Sciences prior to this date, as their requests will go unanswered.
- To request an override on or after April 13, students should email biosciadvising@uic.edu from their UIC email account with their name, UIN, and the course for which they need approval. Students will be notified of their approval within 1-2 business days.
**Non-degree seeking graduate students may request approval for any 300-400 level BIOS course once Open Registration begins on Monday, April 17, 2023. No approvals will be given prior to this date.
NOTE: Please contact the Chemistry department to register for BIOS/CHEM 452.
