Restricted Courses

Restricted courses are those classes which require approval for enrollment. Many of these courses have specific prerequisites. The restricted courses below are the most common NON-LAS courses sought by pre-health students at UIC. All courses have a waitlist or other mechanism by which to indicate interest in a course. Please read the information in the tabs carefully and follow the appropriate instructions to ensure that you are indicating your interest in the appropriate classes.

The KN 230 + KN 232 Waitlist is managed by the College of Applied Health Sciences and is located on their website. The waitlist will open March 30, 2026.

KN 230: Anatomy & Physiology Lecture I is offered in both Fall and Spring semesters.
KN 232: Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory I is offered only the Fall semester. KN 230 and KN 232 do not have to be taken at the same time.

Students who need a LAB for anatomy & physiology pre-requisites should take KN 230 + KN 232.

Please watch the video and read the information on the KN Waitlist page carefully! You can update your educational goal here.

Changes to the Human Anatomy & Physiology sequence offered in the College of Applied Health Sciences as of Fall 2024:

New courses replaced KN 251 in Fall 2024. The change allows students to take the lecture and lab separately if needed.

Previous Course (Spring 2024 and earlier): Lecture + Lab – KN 251 (5 credit hours)

New Courses (Fall 2024 and later) : Lecture – KN 230 (3 credit hours) + Lab – KN 232 (2 credit hours)

Spring 2024 and earlier: KN 251 (5 credits of Lecture + Lab) = Fall 2024 and later: KN 230 (3 credits of Lecture) + KN 232 (2 credits of Lab)

Students in the College of Applied Health Sciences may register for KN 230 and KN 232 through the regular registration process when your time ticket opens. Please do not submit your name to the waitlist.

A grade of C or better in BIOS 110 and a minimum overall GPA 2.5 is still required to take KN 230/KN 232. Exception: A grade of CR in BIOS 110 will be accepted as having met the prerequisite in Spring 2020 only. A grade of C or higher is required in all other semesters.

The equivalent of KN 230 + KN 232 is also available at Chicago (and surrounding area) community colleges and credit can be counted toward the requirement for UIC’s nursing program. Use Transferology to determine your course options.

The KN 231 + KN 233 Waitlist is managed by the College of Applied Health Sciences and is located on their website.

KN 231: Anatomy & Physiology Lecture II is offered in both Fall and Spring semesters.
KN 233: Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory II is offered only the Spring semester. KN 231 and KN 233 do not have to be taken at the same time.

Students who need a LAB for anatomy & physiology pre-requisites should take KN 231 + KN 233.
